In a chat with Rohit sharma, let’s understand his travel habits and his favourite places.
Q1. Your favourite holiday destination in India and abroad ?
Ans. Well, this is a tough one, but Europe, especially Spain, really stands out for me. In particular, I visited Madrid during a family getaway and the city instantly grew on me. Meeting fellow Real Madrid fans added a unique layer to the whole journey. As we travel so much, I love just relaxing and nothing comes close to Ladakh. It’s such a beautiful and surreal experience that we should also experience, and then keep going back. I love the Maldives as a destination to just relax and have fun.
Q2. One word that comes to your mind when you say ‘travel’
Ans. Happiness.
Q3. What do you enjoy most about your partnership with Booking.com?
Ans. I simply believe in associating myself with the absolute best in the business. I consider myself fortunate to be in a position where people actually look up to me and I consider it my responsibility to introduce them to nothing but the finest. The one thing which I enjoy the most about Booking.com is that, from hidden gems in the countryside to vibing in the heart of the cities, the platform makes sure every travel plan is an exciting yet seamless adventure.
Q4. Share your most memorable travel experience
Ans. Oh, that is an interesting story! So, I was visiting Nanyuki, Kenya with my family. We heard about this last Male North African Rhino Sudan in the area. I thought to myself, “I’ve got to experience that!” So, there it was. When I tried to touch it, it made a very scary voice which was very hilarious to my wife. But then I managed to gather some courage and managed to touch the rhino before they went extinct.
Q5. Your favourite and unforgettable travel memory when you went to play cricket
Ans. The Australia test series in 2021, that we won despite having many members of the team who were injured and my first ODI series in Australia in 2007/08 and we won
Q6. Your favourite travel companion amongst cricketers
Ans. This is a difficult one to answer. If I was to ever choose any one cricketer, I would say it’ll be Shikhar Dhawan. We go way back; we have been playing together since our under 19 days at the National Cricket Academy and India A tours. After that we were roommates in Australia, so we share a very close and special bond.
Q7. 3 things that you cannot travel without
Ans. I think my top three would definitely be a pair of sunglasses, caps and eye mask and skin care products.
Q8. What’s next on your travel bucket list
Ans. I want to go to Northern Europe and experience the snow there, with my daughter especially and show her the Northern Lights.
Q9. Mountains or beaches?
Ans. I wish I could choose both. Beaches are great for a bit of relaxation, but there is a sense of adventure and peace up in the mountains that I can’t resist.
Q10. Any tips on travelling sustainably?
Ans. Travelling sustainably is something which I personally take care of. Even though my schedule can get pretty hectic, I try my best to fit these eco-friendly practices into my journeys whenever I can. Some tips which I follow and would like to recommend are:
- Opting for accommodations that follow sustainable practices such as energy-efficient lighting, water conservation measures.
- Pack only what you need to minimise the consumption of fuel, and toiletries to reduce single-use plastic waste.
- Whenever possible, use public transportation like buses, trains, and trams instead of taxis or rental cars. You also get to meet so many locals who help educate you on the country.
