Chinese Company To Roll Out AI-Powered Sexbots With More 'Emotional Connection': Report
Starpery Technology, a major producer of sex dolls, will launch “next-generation sex dolls that can interact vocally and physically” by August.

The market for human-sized sex dolls has been expanding for quite some time now. However, the advancement of large language models has ushered in new developments in the sex-bot market and it appears that China is pioneering in the field. Many Chinese companies are employing ChatGPT-like technology in sex robots to develop extended conversational abilities, both vocal and in terms of “body language”. Starpery Technology, a major producer of sex dolls, used their own large language model to enhance their sex dolls. These dolls, available in male and female models, will hit the shelves as soon as August. Other Chinese companies like WMdoll and EXdoll also plan to launch similar products.

In a conversation with the South China Morning Post, Starpery Technology CEO Evan Lee said, “The new generation of sex dolls, powered by AI models and equipped with sensors, can react with both movements and speech, significantly enhancing user experience by focusing on emotional connection rather than just basic conversational abilities.” Traditional sex dolls are supported by a metal skeleton and have a silicone exterior. These robots have simple responses and lack expressions.

Another development in China’s sex doll market is that companies are now focusing on the domestic market by making dolls that cater to Chinese beauty standards. Reportedly, despite having conservative social values, sex doll sales in China are more than collective sales in several Western countries.

What makes China a pioneer in the sex robot market is not just their early adoption of new technology but also an effective supply chain. According to the South China Morning Post, a sex doll from Chinese brand Starpery is priced at $1,500 (approximately Rs 1.2 lakh), while a similar doll produced by Abyss Creations in the United States starts at $6,000 (approximately Rs 5 lakh).

Evan Lee described the low-cost manufacturing advantage and said, “The supply chain in Guangdong is complete, and manufacturers respond quickly to market demands. New technologies can usually be seen in products, the following month it shows up somewhere else.”

There are many ethical considerations that crop up around the humanoid robot industry. Many believe that AI-driven sex robots can reinforce harmful attitudes regarding consent and propagate negative gender stereotypes. Another criticism is that many people can be further isolated from society as they become overly dependent on AI companions for emotional and sexual fulfilment.
