Ex-JP Morgan Employee Gets Rs 292 Crore Compensation After Glass Door Shatters On Her
A former JP Morgan employee suffered a permanent brain injury after a glass door shattered on her.

While it is common for companies to compensate employees in case of any damage that he/she may suffer in the course of or connection with work, this recently turned out to be a major issue for JP Morgan, a leading company in investment banking, after the firm had to pay out over Rs 200 crore to one of its employees. Meghan Brown, who previously worked with JP Morgan as an analyst, received $35 million (around Rs 292 crore) as damage compensation after the glass door of a building in New York City shattered on her. The incident took place in 2015, following which she reportedly sustained permanent brain damage.

A video of the chilling incident is also going viral on the internet, capturing the moment when Brown pushed the glass door but ended up being crushed underneath as the door shattered, leaving her in pain. Social media user Collin Rugg shared the video along with a detailed account of what happened. Noting that the 36-year-old Brown received $35 million as compensation, Rugg added that the event caused her a traumatic brain injury, which ruined her career and left her out of a job for almost a year.

She returned to the company to resume work; however, she was eventually fired in 2021. The post also mentions how the accident impacted Brown’s ability to perform everyday tasks and even affected her personal life.

“Former-JP Morgan analyst awarded $35 million after a glass door shattered on her in Manhattan. 36-year-old Meghan Brown was leaving a physical therapy appointment in 2015 when the glass door shattered on her,” the caption read.

As per a New York Post report, after a three-week trial in the case, the Manhattan Supreme Court ruled in Meghan Brown’s favour and awarded her over $35 million in damages, stating that the building owner’s negligence was “a substantial factor in causing” the injury.

The post has sparked a lot of reactions on social media. While many were left debating over the huge amount of compensation for the incident, some also spoke in her support in reaction to the permanent brain injury that she suffered. A user wrote, “$35 million? A traumatic brain injury that left her able to run a gelato business?” while another one commented, “How much do you want to bet this person had some dirt on one or more senior JP Morgan executives, and this was their way of paying them off? You could fight a small war for $35 million.”

“She got a TBI from JP Morgan – who cares how much money she gets from them, they will never miss it…and after you have a Traumatic Brain Injury you are never the same – sometimes you slowly get worse…ask tens of thousands of military veterans,” another X user commented.
