COVID-19 made people so accustomed to work-from-home jobs that now the prospect of returning to the office for the same tasks feels burdensome. However, as companies increasingly eliminate the WFH option, employees are left with no choice but to accept the change. Yet, one Redditor’s straightforward response to his company’s ‘no work from home’ rule has sparked widespread discussion online, impressing many.
Posting on the ‘Anti Work’ subreddit, a Redditor shared how their job insisted there would be no work from home “at all,” even during a snowstorm. “Even though I work in IT and do everything remotely, they want me in the office,” the original poster (OP) wrote. In response, the Redditor decided to be equally direct with the company, mirroring their rigid stance.

They deleted Microsoft Teams and email from their phone, not wanting to be available after working hours. “My boss tried to call me for something urgent last night and couldn’t reach me. He asked why today and I explained what I was told,” the Redditor recounted. They concluded with a simple yet powerful statement: “I am not allowed to work from home.”
An ‘X’ user soon took a screenshot of the Reddit post and shared it on the platform with the caption, “Seems fair to me.”

The post quickly went viral, eliciting a range of reactions from the public. “Good point. Have you noticed how they grimace when you ask to work from home, but when they need you on a support rota, you’re suddenly able to do the most important work from anywhere?” one commenter noted. Another agreed, “Exactly. No “have your cake and eat it too”. If no work from home then my personal phone is off limits.”
Others shared the perks of working from home. One user commented, “I work from home, it’s great. I’m more productive, happier and don’t have to waste 2 hours a day, 10 hours week or 40 -odd a month commuting. It’s a an absolute no-brainer. If I ever see an office again it’ll be too soon!”

Another added, “I wfh and it’s great. My boss seems to not care when people work, as long as the work gets done on time. It really has been working out well for everyone since 2020 for my team. Even my boss’s boss doesn’t seem to care about anything else except work being done and goals being met.”
