In northern Italy, three friends were spotted hugging each other just before flash floods carried them away. Two women and a man, all in their twenties, clung to one other in a last-ditch to defy the wild currents after becoming stranded on a river island. Reportedly, at around 1:35 p.m. on Friday (May 31), one of the women had called the authorities in an emergency, and firemen soon arrived at the location of the incident. Emergency personnel tried tossing them a rope, but the swift-moving stream swept away the three despite a firefighter’s encouragement to stay together from a nearby bridge.

According to the Daily Mail, they are identified as Patrizia Cormos, her friend Bianca Doros and her partner Cristian Molnar. The trio was only a “few metres from the safety of the river bank,” the rescuers informed the news outlet.

Afterwards, two bodies, of Cormos and Doros, were discovered around one km away from the location.

Molnar is still missing, and rescuers have stated to Daily Mail that they won’t give up until we locate the third missing person.

The terrifying footage was also posted on Instagram by the publication. They stated, “The heartbreaking final moments of three friends swept up in Italy flash floods have been revealed.”

Doros, who came to see her family in Italy, was from Romania, according to the

local news outlet Corriere della Sera. Cormos studied at the Udine Academy of Fine Arts. She had asked her mother whether she may accompany her friends on a trip to celebrate the completion of an important exam, the local news outlets reported.

According to reports, the friends stopped the car next to the river so they could explore the small beach and snap some pictures. Premariacco Mayor Michele De Sabata discussed the swiftly changing events with The Daily Guardian. The catastrophe that transpired in a matter of minutes was beyond the friends’ imagination, he said, given they had arrived in sunny weather.

Prosecutors launched an inquiry into the incident, according to The Telegraph, as the search for Molnar continues.

“We threw them a rope, but they were literally swallowed up by the flood waters in front of our eyes,” Giorgio Basile, Udine’s provincial firefighters’ chief told The Telegraph. “We watched them disappear,” he added.
