A single-judge bench of the Allahabad High Court has rejected an anticipatory bail application filed by Aparna Purohit, the country head of Amazon Prime India over a UP Police FIR in Noida against the makers of the web series Tandav. Aparna has been accused of promoting religious enmity and defiling a place of worship, reported a website.
The FIR was registered in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar against Aparna and others under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The report further claimed that making strong observations while rejecting Aparna’s anticipatory bail plea in the Noida case, in a 20-page order, Justice Siddharth said, “The conduct of the applicant shows that she has scant respect for the law of the land and her conduct further disentitles her to any relief from this court.”
On Tuesday, Aparna had recorded her statement at the Hazratganj police station in connection with another case on her on the directives of the Allahabad High Court. She has protection from arrest in this case.
According to sources, the Lucknow police had prepared a list of about 100 questions for Aparna, who was questioned in a closed room. Her lawyers were also with her.
Tandav led to protests across the country over some objectionable scenes.
