Missing EgyptAir: Debris in Mediterranean Sea Deemed Unrelated, Search Still on

The search operation for the missing EgyptAir flight MS804 is still on after reports of the plane's wreckage found was turned out to be false.

Meanwhile, US have reached out to Egypt offering help to find the plane. Egypt authorities say the plane may have been victim of a terrorist attack.

The plane reportedly plunged from 37,000 feet into the Mediterranean Sea over Egyptian airspace. No word on the 56 passengers.

Ahmed Abdel, Egypt Air's vice-chairman, said, "We have received information that they found the wreckage but when our officials got closer to it, they realised that it's not our aircraft. We stand corrected because what we identified was not parts of our plane. Search and rescue is still on."

The Egyptair is not conducting any search and rescue operations based on the information given by the Greek and military authorities. We will have to wait till they give us new inputs, Abdel said.

Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said it was too early to rule out any explanation for the crash, including an attack like the one blamed for bringing down a Russian airliner over Egypt's Sinai Peninsula last year. The country's aviation minister said a terrorist attack was more likely than a technical failure.

In Washington, President Barack Obama received a briefing on the disappearance from his adviser for homeland security and counter-terrorism, the White House said. A White House spokesman said it was too early to know the cause of the crash and offered condolences.
