US Couple Accused Of Sexually Abusing, Burning And Shooting 15-Year-Old Girl

A couple from the US state of Louisiana was arrested in connection with an attempted murder of their 15-year-old girl during a traffic-related stop by the police. Latonya Ann Harris, 40, and Terrence Washington, 41, who hailed from Thibodaux, Louisiana, were held for several violent charges after a traffic crash in Baytown, Texas, on April 20.

In the backseat of the car, the police found a 15-year-old victim badly burned and shot multiple times. After a probe, US authorities found the teenage victim suffered severe injuries at the hands of her mother and her mother’s boyfriend. “Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet has confirmed the arrest of a Thibodaux couple in connection with an Attempted Murder investigation, which was discovered during a traffic-related investigation by the Baytown Police Department, in Texas,” Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) said in a statement released on May 15.

“On April 21st, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office first learned of a 15-year-old victim who was found badly burned, shot multiple times, but still clinging to life, during a traffic crash that occurred in Baytown, Tx, on April 20th around 11:00 pm,” police said.

Due to the severity of the teenage girl’s injuries, she was transported to a nearby hospital. Latonya Harris was also hospitalised for crash injuries. Medical staff discovered burns to the victim’s upper body, along with gunshot wounds to the chest and face.  “It was at that time, medical staff discovered the gruesome extent of burns to the upper body of the victim, along with the discovery of gunshot wounds to the victim’s chest and face.”

Subsequently, information was obtained from an interview with Terrence, who admitted to shooting the victim during a disturbance with Harris at their Thibodaux residence. He also admitted to sexual abuse of the victim and knowledge of her burning, treated at home by Harris. A search warrant for the family residence confirmed evidence of a shot weapon, blood evidence, and strong odors indicating infection and decomposing flesh.

“Investigators with the Baytown Police Department provided SVU Detectives with information they obtained during an interview with Washington, who admitted to being responsible for shooting the victim, which took place during a disturbance with his girlfriend, Latonya Harris, at their residence in Thibodaux. Washington also admitted to being responsible for sexual abuse of the victim, which lasted numerous months prior to the victim’s injuries,” police said.
