Unlike the previous 10 occasions, the ceremony for the best Indian fielder in the was pretty low-key on Sunday. The players were down with disappointment of losing the World Cup 2023 final to Australia in Ahmedabad. Team India was invincible in the tournament with 10 straight wins in the pocket. As the World Cup’s tagline said, ‘It takes one day’, Australia had that on November 19, silencing a 90,000-plus crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Despite the gut-wrenching loss, fielding coach T Dilip decided to give away the medal for one last time in the tournament. It was Virat Kohli who bagged the prize for his sharp catch to dismiss David Warner early in Australia’s chase of 240.
The video shared by the BCCI on social media showed glimpses of previous medal ceremonies in the Indian dressing room before Dilip announced Kohli’s name. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who won it for the most number of times, handed the medal to the former Indian captain.
“From our first medal ceremony to the last – thank you to all the fans who’ve given us a lot of love for it. Yesterday, we kept our spirits high in the dressing room and presented the best fielder award for one final time,” the caption of the video read.

Dilip also praised the team for their performance throughout the tournament, saying they should be proud of themselves.
“Guys, I know it is tough and we all feel the pain but that’s what it is. We did everything possible right and still, the result is not in our favour. But I think Rahul (Dravid) bhai said we can all be proud of ourselves. I appreciate and thank every player in this group who has committed to the practice sessions. The way you put yourself on the line, you put intent and energy. I couldn’t ask more than this. Well done,” Dilip added.
India on Sunday posted a below-par score of 239 all-out in fifty overs after Kohli and KL Rahul scored fifties. But the total wasn’t enough to challenge the Aussies who won the game by 6 wickets and lifted the trophy for the 6th time.
