After a lot of teasing, the Japanese automaker has finally unveiled the all-new R6 and it's every bit as cool as the the new R1, given by the way it looks.
The new R1 had a completely new design language used by Yamaha which immediately made it stand out of the crowd and surprisingly, the company has been able to give the same treatment to the new R6.
The R6 has got itself new fairings with all-LED lighting, integrated turn signals, new aluminium fuel tank and the R1-inspired tail section with stepped seat finish off the bike’s profile neatly.
Powering Yamaha’s latest motorcycle is a 599 cc liquid-cooled DOHC inline 4-cylinder engine that comes mated to a 6-speed transmission supported by a slipper clutch. A Quickshifter can be added to the bike as an accessory.
When it comes to stopping, the 2017 model will get larger 320 mm front disc brakes, matched to radial-mount four-piston calipers and a Nissin radial-mount master cylinder, all right off the R1, for exceptional braking power. ABS is also new for the 2017 unit. In simple words, braking should be excellent on this one. Suspension duties are handled by KYB shocks.
The biggest change, though, has to be the updated electronics package that the bike gets, like the ‘Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle’ ride-by-wire system, 6-level traction control system and three-stage engine level selection system which changes the way the bike responds based on rider’s need.
As of now, there's no announcement or news about the latest Yamaha product making its way to the Indian market or what it'll be priced at if and when it comes to India. As of now, we can only wait to find out.
