New Delhi: German luxury car manufacturer Audi today announced an increase in prices of some of its models by as much as 15 per cent, with effect from Saturday.

While Audi Q range SUVs will be dearer by 2.5 per cent, sporty performance range Audi R8 and Audi RS5 would be costlier by close to 15 per cent, the company said in a statement.

"The increase in price is effective from March 16," it added. "According to the 2013-14 Budget, there has been an upward revision in customs duty and excise duty, based on conditional clause on select models. Due to this development, we are forced to make a correction in our prices," Audi India Head Michael Perschke said.

"We understand the overall market scenario is challenging, however, we are offering customised and innovative finance options to customers from Audi Finance which will make their purchase more attractive," Perschke added.

He said that despite the challenges, Audi sales grew by 29 per cent in February with total sales of 775 units.

Globally, Audi delivered more than 110,000 units to customers in February.

Overall, Audi's global deliveries over the first two months of the year increased by 9.4 per cent to around 2,21,800 units.

Recently, Audi Group announced an increase in its operating profit to 5.4 billion for 2012.

The company has opened new showrooms in Mumbai and Lucknow this year. Last year, it opened showrooms in Raipur, Kanpur, Goa, Coimbatore, Delhi west, Nagpur and Bhopal.
