In a major step towards expanding electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, Thunder Plus, one of India’s leading EV charging companies, has launched the country’s first-ever EV charging station inside a public post office.

This groundbreaking facility was inaugurated at the Sainikpuri Head Post Office in Hyderabad.

The event, graced by Smt. Sreelatha, Chief Postmaster General, and Rajeev YSR, CEO of Thunder Plus, highlighted the collaboration between the Indian Postal Service and Thunder Plus to push India’s green mobility forward.

Rajeev YSR expressed optimism about the initiative, saying, “The first ever post office that is equipped with EV Charging solutions paves way for innumerable and innovative opportunities in the future and falls in line with our motto of removing charging anxiety from the Indian Ecosystem.”

This first-of-its-kind station is part of a larger vision to transform post offices into hubs for clean energy and eco-friendly transport. The initiative aims to make EV charging more accessible and pave the way for a robust infrastructure across the country.

Smt. Sreelatha, Indian Postal Service Officer, said, “India is moving on an upward growth trajectory in EV adoption. However, it has yet to overcome the infrastructural challenges. It requires the synergy between real estate, electricity coordination, demand creation for good ROI, technology adoption and strict adherence to regulations while ensuring the price of the chargers and the energy dispensed are at the bare minimum.”

The launch marks a significant milestone in India’s journey toward a sustainable future, with more post offices expected to follow suit soon.
