Leelavathi is a popular South Indian actress who has predominantly worked in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam film industries. Over her illustrative career of 50 years, she has worked in more than 600 movies. For her immense contributions, she was also awarded with a Lifetime Achievement award in the film industry. The veteran actress is currently suffering from age-related illnesses. She is bed-ridden at her Bengaluru home. Many well-known personalities paid her a visit. The latest one being actor Shiva Rajkumar. He went to meet the ailing actress at her house in Soladevanahalli near Nelamangala on Tuesday along with his wife Geetha. He told the reporters that Leelavathi recognised her. He even referred to the actress as his “mother”.
Shiva Rajkumar is the son of late actor Rajkumar. Leelavathi and Rajkumar were a hit pair of the Kannada film industry at one point in time. Their on-screen chemistry was loved by everyone. They have acted in movies like Karuneye Kutumbada Kannu and Premamayi, all of which were hits. Reportedly, there were rumours about them dating as well.
Shiva Rajkumar was also seen talking to an emotional Vinod Raj, son of Leelavathi. Shiva Rajkumar said that Leelavathi is like a mother to him. Geeta Shiva Rajkumar also was present to enquire about the actress’ health. She had only words of love for Leelavathi and Vinod Raj.
Shiva Rajkumar said to the media, “She has the strength to endure pain even at this age. It is painful to see her in this state.” He recently even fulfilled Leelavathi’s request and inaugurated Dr Leelavathi’s Veterinary Hospital.
He also said that Leelavathi earned only name and fame from the film industry, but not money. She did not get any financial help or CSR funds and yet managed to build the veterinary hospital. Meanwhile, the government is still contemplating offering pensions to co-artistes and technicians who work behind the camera.
After Leelavathi fell sick, many actors and actresses visited the house to meet her and check up on her. Recently, Darshan Thoogudeepa dropped by the house to enquire about the health of the veteran star. A few days ago, Arjun Sarja and B Saroja Devi, Umashree, Srinath and many others visited the ailing actress.
