Pankaj Tripathi’s latest film Main Atal Hoon, where he plays former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has the actor winning many accolades. Though the movie itself has received a mixed reception with the editing receiving some criticism, Pankaj Tripathi’s performance has received unanimous appreciation. He has been giving many interviews since, before the release of the film to promote it. He recently exchanged a few words with Pinkvilla where his thoughtful reply to a hypothetical question has gone widely viral. Since he played a real life Prime Minister in Main Atal Hoon, Pankaj Tripathi was asked what he would do if were to become the PM of the country just for a day. Pankaj Tripathi said that if this was the case, then it would take him an entire day to just process that he is the PM. He stressed that it would also require time to understand the duties, come to decisions, and develop self-assurance in the role.
“It will take the whole day to sink in that I have become the Prime Minister. Decisions, from where to start taking them, understanding and believing in them will take up the whole time and I will suddenly realise my time as PM is up,” he said.
In the same interview, the topic of nepotism, which is a widespread debate these days, was also touched upon. Pankaj Tripathi emphasised how common it is across all disciplines and noted that because interviews with people in different fields aren’t usually conducted, the issue might not receive attention everywhere. Pankaj Tripathi emphasised that talent should always be recognised regardless of background. He said, “One should always be judged based on their talent. A talented child might also come from a privileged household.”
Main Atal Hoon, despite mixed to positive reviews, has not performed as expected at the box office. According to reports, Main Atal Hoon has not been able to earn even Rs 10 crore in five days.
