New Delhi: The meeting of Group of Ministers on fuel prices scheduled for on Saturday has been put off, even as the core group of UPA alliance is likely to meet on Monday morning and may discuss the issue.
External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who heads the GoM on fuel prices, had on January 17 indicated that the meet would be held on Saturday.
However, since four of the seven members of GoM are unavailable, the meet has been put off, official sources said.
The core group of UPA may meet on Monday morning on the issue of raising petrol and diesel prices in view of the spurt in international oil prices, may figure during discussion.
Union Petroleum Minister Murli Deora had on Friday hinted that the increase in the prices would not be too much.
"The hike will be minimal. I can assure that people will not complain," Deora had said.
"Group of Ministers meeting was inconclusive as two ministers were not present. We did discuss some proposals and I hope the GoM and government will find a solution," he said.
"Our endeavour is that consumers should not be burdened too much, and the losses of oil companies are also taken care of," he added.
