GAIL to take 70pc stake in Assam project
The Gas Cracker project will be implemented by a JVC to be promoted by GAIL with 70 per cent equity participation.

New Delhi: Gas utility company Gail India Ltd (GAIL) today said it will invest Rs 5,460 crore in its Assam Gas Cracker project.

The project, to be set up at an integrated petrochemical complex at Lepetkata in Dibrugath, will have a capacity of 2,20,000 tonnes per annum of Ethylene and 60,000 tonnes per annum of propylene.

It will also produce 55000 TPA of Raw Pyrolysis Gasoline and 12,500 TPA of Fuel oil.

The gas shall be supplied by OIL and ONGC, while naphtha would be sourced from Numaligarh Refinery Ltd.

The project will be completed in 60 months from the date of approval.

The company said the project will be implemented by a joint venture company (JVC) to be promoted by GAIL with 70 per cent equity participation.

The remaining 30 per cent equity will be shared equally among OIL, NRL and Assam government.

The existing LPG plant of the company at Lakwa will be modified to process gas for recovery of ethane and higher hydrocarbon fraction, which will be transported to Lepetkata through a pipeline.

The Assam Gas Cracker Project was proposed as a part of the implementation of Assam Accord signed by Government of India on August 1985.
