Mumbai: The market slipped from higher levels in late trade, after touching all-time high of 10706.22. The Nifty and CNX Midcap ended with over 20 points gain each. Capital goods, banking, metal, oil, FMCG and auto stocks witnessed gain.
The markets ended firm amid volatile trade with yet another day of new highs.
The Sensex closed up 61.31 points or 0.58 per cent at 10626.78. It touched an all-time high of 10706.22. It crossed 10700 for the first time ever.
The Nifty closed up 27.60 points or 0.88 per cent at 3150.70. It touched an all-time high of 3170.35.
The CNX Midcap closed up 30.95 points or 0.69 per cent at 4526.15. It touched an all-time high of 4547.70.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed up 7.35 points or 0.12 per cent at 6229.98. The BSE Midcap Index closed up 27.38 points or 0.56 per cent at 4887.72.
Bharti Tele, Dabur India, VSNL, ABB, Tata Power, ONGC and Maruti were the biggest index gainers.
BPCL, Infosys, ACC and Tata Tea were the biggest index losers.
The total market turnover was at Rs 46,826.55 crore.
The BSE Capital Goods Index outperformed the other indices. It closed up 1.61 per cent at 7716.32 amid gains in Alstom Projects, Siemens, Bharat Electronics, ABB, BEML, SKF India, Gammon India, Dredging Corporation and Larsen. The capital goods stocks rallied on the backdrop of US-India nuclear deal.
Banking stocks including Canara Bank, Union Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bank of India, Oriental Bank, UTI Bank, Bank of Baroda, HDFC Bank, PNB and SBI also surged up. The BSE Bankex closed up 1.31 per cent at 5287.16.
Metal stocks including JSW Steel, Sesa Goa, Jindal Stainless, Hindustan Zinc, Sterlite Industries, Gujarat NSE Coke and Jindal Saw also ended in the green. The BSE Metal Index closed up 1.20 per cent at 7519.37.
