New Delhi: The markets ended higher on huge fund-based buying. Gains were seen in pharma, metal, FMCG, oil, technology and capital goods stocks.
The market ended higher on huge fund based buying. The Sensex closed at a new high of 11,307.04, up 123.56 points or 1.10 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 11,338.66.
The Nifty ended at 3418.95, up 64.75 points or 1.93 per cent. It also touched a life high of 3433.85.
The CNX Midcap closed at 4712.70, up 33.15 points or 0.71 per cent. It also touched an all-time high of 4741.70.
The BSE Small Cap closed up 100.45 points or 1.57 per cent at 6,515.85. The BSE Midcap ended up 1% at 5,249.36.
The market breadth was positive, about 1685 shares advanced, 740 shares declined, and 61 shares remained unchanged.
The total market turnover was at Rs 65510.47 crore. The NSE Cash turnover was at Rs 12297 crore. The NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 47272.22 crore. The BSE Cash turnover was at Rs 5941.25 crore.
Ranbaxy Labs, Bharti Tele, Wipro, TCS, ONGC, SAIL, HCL Tech and Sun Pharma were the biggest gainers on the indices.
However, SBI, NTPC, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Auto, Tata Power, M&M, Tata Chemicals and Tata Tea were the biggest losers on the indices.
The BSE FMCG Index outperformed the other indices in late trade. It closed at 2,224.79, up 2.33 per cent as buying was seen in Shaw Wallace, Nestle, ITC, Nirma, HLL and Colgate.
Pharma stocks including Ranbaxy Labs, Sun Pharma, Lupin, Aurobindo Pharma, Ipca Labs, GSK Pharma, Glenmark, Cadila Health, Novartis India and Biocon also surged. The BSE Healthcare Index closed at 3,843.14, up 2.14 per cent.
Metal stocks like Hind Zinc, SAIL, JSW Steel, Hindalco, NALCO and Sesa Goa also ended higher on huge buying interest. The BSE Metal Index closed at 8,738.40, up 175.89 points, or 2.05 per cent.
The BSE Oil & Gas Index ended at 4,924.12, up 1.22 per cent due to gains in IOC, GAIL, ONGC and MRPL.
Technology stocks like Wipro, HCL Tech, TCS and Hexaware Tech also flared up. The BSE IT Index closed at 4,069.11, up 1.03 per cent.
Capital goods stocks including Praj Industries, BEML, KEC Infrastructures, L&T, Carborundum and Alstom Projects also shot up. The BSE Capital Goods Index ended at 8,060.11, up 0.25 per cent.
However, consumer durables stocks like Titan Industries and Blue Star ended in red. The BSE Consumer Durables Index closed at 3,135.88, down 1.83 per cent.
The BSE Auto Index ended at 5,233.08, down 0.59 per cent amid selling in Sundram, Ashok Leyland, M&M, Amtek Auto, MICO, MRF and Bajaj Auto.
Banking stocks including Canara Bank, UTI Bank, Kotak Mahindra, IOB, SBI, Bank of Baroda and ICICI Bank also slipped. The BSE Bankex closed at 5,251.94, down 0.47 per cent.
