New Delhi: Sahara on Wednesday asked the Supreme Court to put its chief Subrata Roy under house arrest or under any other form of restriction, saying that the company was not being able to hold talks with international buyers in his absence.
"Sahara cannot engage in talks with international buyers with Subrata Roy behind bars," the lawyers for the company said.
The company told the apex court that it wanted to raise money from the international buyers to pay to SEBI in the investors funds case.
"We request the Supreme Court to put him under house arrest, office arrest or put stringent conditions/restrictions on him," the lawyers said.
Roy is in jail in a contempt case for not appearing before the SC despite repeated summons in the investors funds case. SEBI had asked Sahara to repay over Rs 20,000 crore to investors which it said the company had raised illegally and in violation of rules. Sahara maintained SEBI had no jurisdiction over it.
