Times change, but the memories last forever. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma acknowledged the same, as he took to social media to celebrate his former opening partner Shikhar Dhawan’s retirement from international cricket.
The likes of Rohit and Dhawan used to terrorize bowling line-ups as the fiery duo set stadiums ablaze with their attacking prowess.
The aggregate of 5148 partnership runs between Rohit and Dhawan is the fourth-highest among all opening pairs, next only to Sourav Ganguly- Sachin Tendulkar, Adam Gilchrist-Matthew Hayden, and Gordon Greenidge-Desmond Haynes.
The duo’s destructiveness could also be encapsultaed by the fact that they have put up 10 century partnerships for the first wicket in ODIs, which is the second-best by any opening pair – only Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, with 21, have more.
With news of the opener’s retirement being released, Rohit took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message to his once partner-in-crime.

“From sharing rooms to sharing lifetime memories on the field. You always made my job easier from the other end. THE ULTIMATE JATT,” wrote Rohit.
Dhawan announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket on Sunday, stating he’s content with his career having realised his dream of representing his country.
“As I close this chapter of my cricketing journey, I carry with me countless memories and gratitude. Thank you for the love and support! Jai Hind!” Dhawan said in a post on his social media accounts.

Dhawan, who made his international debut in October 2010, played 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20Is for India. He scored 10867 runs across formats including 24 centuries and 55 half-centuries.
“I am at a point when I look back and only see good memories and a new world when I look ahead,” Dhawan said in the video.
“My only dream was to play for India and it became a reality. For that, I’m thankful to a lot of people.”
“As I say farewell to my cricket journey, I am content that I was able to play for my country. I am really thankful to BCCI, DDCA for giving me the opportunities and fans for their love,” the former India opener said.
“All I can say to myself is that ‘don’t be sad that you won’t get to play your country again but be happy that you did play for tour country which is my biggest achievement that I played,” he concluded.
