Team India received a rousing reception at the Mumbai airport on their arrival from the Caribbean via New Delhi on Thursday. The fans gathered in huge numbers outside the airport to have a glimpse of their superstars who defeated South Africa last week in the T20 World Cup 2024 final to be crowned as the new champions. The team touched down in Mumbai on Thursday evening and will go for an open bus parade before heading to the iconic Wankhede Stadium for the felicitation ceremony.
The crowd went crazy as the stars of Team India came out of the Mumbai Airport. Hardik Pandya stole the show as he came out with the World Cup trophy in his hands and waved it in the air as the fans cheered loudly for the Indian vice-captain.
Mumbai under tight security cover
Extra security has been deployed throughout the city given the team’s victory parade in Mumbai. Extra security arrangements have been made at Churchgate, Marine Lines and Charni Road stations for efficient crowd management.
The victory parade of the Indian team from Marine Drive to Wankhede Stadium in an open bus would coincide with the evening rush hour when thousands of commuters working in south Mumbai return to their homes in the northern suburbs.
“Additional Ticket Checking staff have also been deployed at the stations and additional UTS windows at Churchgate will remain operational till midnight,” Western Railway stated.
Crowds at Churchgate and other railway stations began to swell since afternoon as people were reaching south Mumbai to witness the victory parade and have a glimpse of the cricket team, officials said.
