Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan heaped massive praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal who has been making quite a stir in international cricket. Since making his international debut in West Indies last year, the left-hander has garnered 637 runs in 6 Tests at a staggering average of 57.90, including 2 hundreds and as many fifties. His numbers in the T20Is are equally staggering. In 17 matches, Jaiswal has scored 502 runs, including a century, at a strike-rate of 161.93.
Jaiswal’s recent heroics came in the second Test of the ongoing 5-match series against England in Visakhapatnam. Opening with skipper Rohit Sharma, the 22-year-old struck his maiden double hundred as the hosts won the game by 106 runs.
Pathan, who was addressing a gathering of school students on Star Sports, said he has been impressed with Jaiswal’s achievements in international cricket so far. The former all-rounder also added that the young batters has a strong off-side game, resembling former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly.
“There’s one player who I’m excited for, he is Yashasvi Jaiswal. Now, it has to be seen how he performs in IPL. What an exciting player he is… Kamal ka player hai. He possesses the off-side game, just like Dada (Sourav Ganguly). Just like we used to see him and say, ‘He’s the king of the off-side’. If he goes on to play for the next 10 years, we will speak about his game as much as we spoke about Dada’s. Jaiswal is that kind of a player.

“And now he has scored a double hundred in international hundred and he has a great background story,” he added.
Last week when Jaiswal struck the double-hundred against England, Pathan posted an inspirational quote to laud the youngster’s efforts.
“Ghar na hone ki wajah se Maidaan mein sone wala ladka aaj bade khiladoyo ko maidaan mein jaga bhi raha hai bhaga bhi raha hai (He had no place to live so he slept in grounds and now he is keeping the bowlers awake and troubling them). Well played Yashasvi Jaiswal #INDvsENGT,” Irfan Pathan had written on X.
Jaiswal will return to action in the third Test against England, starting Thursday in Rajkot.
