As the T20 World Cup 2024 approaches, the Indian squad will be on the quest for silverware once again and all eyes will be on the returning Rishabh Pant who could make his return to international cricket during the tournament.
The wicketkeeper-batter has not played an international game since December 2022, making it just under one and a half years since he last represented the country. His long absence was due to the horrific car accident that sidelined him till March 2024.
Excited about his return was none other than the mentor for the Delhi Capitals, Sourav Ganguly who believes that Pant has started playing like the cricketer he was prior to the crash.
“He was superb for us (DC) in the IPL. I was so happy to see the way he came back because I have always said that he is a special player,” Ganguly said at a corporate event.

He led the Delhi Capitals once again and had a stellar season on an individual level where he scored 446 runs at a strike rate of 155.4 and an average of 40.55. While DC were unable to get to the playoffs, the franchise will be motivated by the positive signs shown by Pant on his return to cricket and the Indian team management will hope he can continue the form for the T20 showpiece event.
Ganguly has always backed the 26-year-old to be one of the top talents in the country and appreciated the efforts that went behind the scenes for his return and hopes he gets back to his best quickly.
The former Indian skipper concluded by saying, “Even earlier, I have said that he is exceptional. You don’t want such talent to be lost for such disastrous reasons (accident). He has really worked hard to get back to where he is and he is the Rishabh Pant of old”.
