Yuzvendra Chahal has made it to India’s T20 World Cup squad yet again. He is one of the two wrist spinners in the team of 15 as the selectors have named him along with his Chinaman bowler, Kuldeep Yadav. But will he be able to make his debut in the championship of the shortest format, it has to be seen when Team India opens their campaign in the Caribbean against Ireland next month.

Chahal has had the hardest luck when it comes to the T20 World Cups. After losing his spot to Rahul Chahar in the 2021 edition, held in the UAE, he made it to the flight to Australia in 2022 but only to warm the benches throughout the tournament Down Under. He happens to be the highest wicket-taker for India in the shortest format, accumulating 96 scalps in 80 matches, but, ironically, he has yet to play for the country in a T20 World Cup.
Now that he has got another opportunity to showcase his talent at the World Cup, former chief selector MSK Prasad believes that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has done a great job by picking the wrist spinner in the final 15.
Speaking with RevSports, Prasad expressed his surprise over Chahal not playing in the last two editions of the T20 World Cup.

“What shocks me is that how can you not pick Chahal when the T20 World Cup was happening in Dubai. How can you not pick him during the T20 World Cup in Australia as you needed a wrist spinner in Australian conditions. It was a shocking decision to see him missing out on the last two T20 World Cups,” Prasad told RevSports.
The former India cricket further lauded Chahal’s determination to bounce back and said the leggie ‘thoroughly deserves’ a place in India’s squad for the mega event in the West Indies and the US.
“But this guy has never let himself down and kept on performing. That is what the players must do. Rather than complaining about their non-selection you must go back and keep performing. This man (Yuzi) thoroughly deserves a place in the side and he will have to play a key role if India is going to win the World Cup.
“Hats off to the selectors for picking him. He has been bowling well. It is a wonderful inclusion along with Kuldeep Yadav. Conditions in the Caribbean and in the USA will help for bowlers of their class,” he added.
