India’s performance in last edition
In the 2023 edition of the women’s T20 World Cup, which was played in South Africa, India suffered a close defeat by five runs in the first semifinal played against Australia.
India had opened its campaign by getting the better of Pakistan by seven wickets in the first match and then defeated the 2016 champions, the West Indies, by six wickets. India went down by 11 runs against England in the third match but quickly bounced back to get the better of Ireland in the final group stage match and book a place in the semi-final.
India’s best performance in the women’s T20 World Cup was during the 2020 edition, when it was played in Australia. In that tournament, India won four matches in a row to qualify for the final for the first time in history, but could only manage to finish as runners-up.
In the final played at Melbourne Cricket Ground on March 8, 2020, Meg Lanning & Co. defeated India by 85 runs to successfully defend their title.
