PBKS stand-in skipper Sam Curran won the toss and opted to put Mumbai to bat first as Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan opened the innings for the visitors. Kishan was the first to go as he fell victim to Kagiso Rabada for just 8 runs.
Suryakumar and Rohit steadied the innings with a 81-run stand before the former skipper fell for 36 to Curran. Suryakumar went on to notch up a splendid half-century and was ably supported by Tilak Varma before the right handed batter was dismissed for 78 off just 53 deliveries by Curran.
Hardik Pandya and Tim David chipped in with contributions of 14 and 10 runs respectively before Harshal Patel claimed the scalps of the two baters, before going on to complete his three-fer with the dismissal of Romario Shepard for just a single run.
Patel ran Mohammed Nabi out in the final ball of the innings as Varma remained unbeaten at 34 to help MI set PBKS a target of 193 runs to win.

Punjab’s chase was off to a horrendous start as they lost the wicket of opener Prabhsimran Singh for a duck in the first over from Gerald Coetzee, before Rilee Rossouw was dismissed by a Jasprit Bumrah ripper.
The Indian seamer went on to scalp Curran in the same over to put PBKS in further trouble. Things went from bad to worse for the hosts as they lost the wicket of Liam Livingstone to Coetzee in the very next over and were reeling at 14 for the loss of 4 wickets in the third over of the chase.
Harpreet Bhatia added 13 runs before being caught and bowled by Shreyas Gopal and Punja were staring at the abyss at 49/5 in 7 overs. Jitesh Sharma was next to go after having added a run-a-ball- 9 runs and Punjab were in deep trouble.
Shashank Singh, who has been a ray of hope in Punjab’s season this year, made 41 runs before falling victim to Bumrah, who completed his three-fer.
When all seemed to have been lost in came young gun Ashutosh Sharma, who nearly took the game away from MI with his blinder of a knock as he made 61 runs off 28 deliveries smashing the MI bowling unit all over the park. Harpreet Brar accompanied the 25-year-old at the crease as he took Punjab within touching distance.
However, with Punjab 25 runs away from the target, Ashutosh was sent back to the dugout by Coetzee, which deflated the fighting Punjab unit. Brar followed his teammate back in the hut shortly after and MI sealed the win with the run out of Kagiso Rabada in the final over to clinch the thriller.
