'IPL Best Time to Spread Hate, Fake News': Ian Bishop, Aakash Chopra Lash Out at 'Ridiculous People' for Sharing Fake Quotes
Popular IPL commentators Ian Bishop, Aakash Chopra, Parthiv Patel have been calling out the trend of users indulging in engagement farming by sharing fake quotes in their names.

Former West Indies fast bowler and a popular commentator Ian Bishop has called out social media accounts for sharing fake quotes in his name and advised users to pay no heed to such comments.

“For the last couple of seasons there have been a number of accounts on here  (X) posting derogatory statements about players, and then attaching my name to it as if I said it. Those that follow me know that is not my way. So please pay those accounts no attention,” Bishop posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier this week, former India cricketer Parthiv Patel had also called out an account for ‘spreading false information’ in his name from  an IPL match he didn’t cover.

“Fake quote. I haven’t even covered this game. The last one I did was on Sunday. And back on next week. So please stop spreading false information to get views and clicks,” Patel quoted a now deleted post.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra is the latest to express his anger at this growing trend, wondering if morals have taken a backseat.

Chopra shared a screenshot of a social media account that claimed the commentator allegedly questioned Rohit Sharma’s selection in India’s T20 World Cup squad.

“IPL is the best time to spread hate, fake news…and all sorts of rubbish. Fan-armies are there to lap it up always. I often wonder if views/engagement is more important than the morals,” he posted.

Bishop also shared Chopra’s post.

“Again. Why is this fun for some folks?” he wrote.

The BCCI announced a 15-man India squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 earlier this year which will be led by Rohit while Hardik Pandya has been named as the vice-captain.

India will open their world cup campaign on June 5 when they take on Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
