India’s star pacer Mohammed Siraj has been under the pump in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The right-arm quick has managed to pick just 4 wickets in 6 matches, remaining wicketless in three games and conceding 191 runs. His ongoing form not only raises a big question about his selection for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024 but also adds to the bowling woes of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the ongoing season.

Siraj’s current performance has raised quite a few eyebrows and former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh believes that the pacer needs rest. Speaking with Star Sports, the legendary cricketer said Siraj has been a star player for the country and his IPL franchise but playing continuously seems to have taken a toll on the pacer’s body and mind.
“He has been a champion bowler for Team India, and even for RCB, he has done well. But I feel he’s not doing what he is required to do, he requires rest, not only mentally but physically as well because he has been playing a lot of cricket. He’s played four Tests against England, before that whatever series India was playing, he has already been a part of the team. And he bowls a lot of overs. So, for me, he looks a bit tired physically and mentally,” Harbhajan said.

“And with this kind of hammering, it’s difficult for any bowler to wake up the next day and feel alright. I also went through these situations where I got hammered by different batters, you have to give yourself a bit of time to relax, think about your game and work hard in the nets, work on your game and come back stronger like we have seen Siraj and I’m sure he’ll come back stronger,” he added.
RCB’s poor run in IPL 2024
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been languishing in the 9th spot on the points table with just one win in 6 games. Despite tasting a victory early in the season, against PBKS, they failed to carry on the momentum and suffered 4 losses on the trot.
Their latest drubbing came against Mumbai Indians on Thursday when RCB’s bowling unit failed to defend a 196-run total.
