Dhoni retires in 2020
Dhoni, who made his international debut for India against Bangladesh in 2004, played at the highest level for 15 years. His last game for India was against New Zealand during the first semifinal of the 2019 ODI World Cup, which was played in Manchester over two days due to a rain interruption on July 9. In his last match for the Men in Blue, Dhoni scored 50 runs but wasn’t able to help India get the better of the Kiwis and qualify for the final.
Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket via an Instagram post on August 15, 2020. He does, however, still play in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings and has helped them win five IPL titles before passing the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the start of the IPL 2024 season.
