'One Good Spell Can Change the Game': Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis Reveal Their Picks to Win IND vs PAK Clash in New York

As we are just a few hours away from the T20 World Cup 2024’s marquee fixture of the tournament taking place, two legendary pacers have revealed their favourites to come out on top in the India vs Pakistan match taking place at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Former Pakistan internationals and legendary fast-bowling pair of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis shared their picks ahead of the all-important clash between arch-rivals.

In a video uploaded by Star Sports, Akram went ahead and picked India as his favourite to win the contest but maintains the opinion that in the shortest format, things can turn against you very quickly.

“If we look at India’s form, India generally is a better team. Better team in a way that they’re favourites heading into that game. I will give 60% to India and 40% to Pakistan. But, it’s T20I, one good inning, one good spell, the game can change quickly. I think everybody is looking forward to the game of the tournament,” said Akram.

His fellow pacer, Younis went ahead to pick his country to come out on top considering their star pace-bowling quartet including the likes of Mohammed Amir, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf.

“My heart says Pakistan but from what I’ve seen so far in this tournament the pitch in New York is very much for the faster bowlers. So, it evens it out a little bit just purely because of the surface in New York,” Younis commented.

In the history of the T20 World Cup, India has a 6-1 lead against Pakistan and will look to make it 7-1 in New York. India led by Rohit Sharma has started the tournament in flying fashion with a crushing victory over Ireland to open their campaign.

In contrast, Pakistan has had a disastrous start to the tournament after losing out to the co-hosts United States of America in their opening game which will dent their chances of making it out of the group stages of the T20 World Cup 2024.
