Legendary South African pacer Dale Steyn sent out a message of support to compatriot Kwena Maphaka, who was given a harsh reality check on his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday.
The young Protea made his tournament debut in the Hyderabad fixture which turned out to be run-fest with over a cumulative 500 runs being scored by SRH and MI, in a game the home side scripted history.
Maphaka was taken for 66 runs in his four overs against SRH and ended the day without picking up a wicket as the Sunrisers notched up a record 277 runs in 20 overs.

“I woke up feeling for Kwena Maphaka today, but I know he’s surrounded by some amazing people at MI and he’s gonna be absolutely fine,” the legendary South African seamer’s post began.
“His first experience, regardless of result or performance, should still be the most amazing cricket experience he’s ever had,” Steyn continued.
“At just 17, it’s only upwards from here. Well done young man,” the pacer-par-excellence’s update read.

Swashbuckling innings from Australian Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who made incredible 62 and 63 runs respectively, set SRH up on good stead to break multiple records on the day, and the middle order obliged.
South African skipper Aiden Markram added 42 runs off just 28 deliveries, but the biggest knock on the day came from Heinrich Klaasen, who put up an astounding 80 off just 34 deliveries, as the Protea pair remained unbeaten in the record total.
Mumbai came out all guns blazing in an attempt to chase down the mammoth target, but fell short as they could only make 246 runs for the loss of half their side in the unsuccessful chase.
Tilak Varma top-scored for MI with 64 runs, while Tim David’s unbeaten 42 wasn’t enough to carry the side over the line.
