Star Indian batter Rinku Singh has expressed his desire to play Test cricket for India. According to the left-handed batter, who made his India debut last year during a T20I match against Ireland, he likes to play red-ball cricket a lot and is looking forward to getting a chance to play for India in the five-day format of the game in the future.
“I want to play all three formats of the game. I like playing Test cricket a lot. My batting average in red-ball cricket is 55. Mujhe bahut pasand hai laal ball khelna. Bahut maja ata hai mujhe khelne mein. Test cricket is very big cricket. White-ball to sab khelte hai magar Test khelna bahut badi baat hai aaj ke time mein. Toh vo mai khelna chahunga,” Rinku told News 24.
Rinku, who represents Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket, has played in a total of 47 first-class matches so far and has scored 3173 runs at an average of 54.70. The 26-year-old, who was part of the India A squad for the second four-day match against England A earlier this year, will, however, miss the upcoming edition of the Duleep Trophy 2024, which is set to start on September 5. He was not picked in any of the four squads announced by the BCCI on August 14.
‘Dream to play WC’
Rinku, who was unlucky to miss out on a place in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad, also opened up about the snub and said it is his dream to represent India at the mega event.
“Every player dreams about playing for the country in the World Cup, and it is my dream as well. I had done well for India, but team selection is not in my hands.”
“Maybe they (selectors) haven’t seen me bowling at that time; otherwise, it would have been a different scenario,” he jokingly said.
“It was the selector’s call, due to team combination (failed to find a place), but no problem; I will play in the World Cup next time. I will work harder,” he added.
