Indian men’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma scored 35 runs from 20 balls in the third ODI against Sri Lanka on Wednesday (August 7), which was played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. During his stay at the crease, 37-year-old Rohit hammered six fours and one six. The one maximum that he hit on the second ball of the fourth over of Indian innings bowled by Maheesh Theekshana helped him equal Chris Gayle’s record of 331 sixes and become the second highest six-hitter in the history of ODI cricket.
Rohit, who made his ODI debut for India on June 23, 2007, against Ireland in Belfast, has 331 sixes to his name in 265 50-over matches played so far, whereas Gayle finished his career with 331 sixes in 301 ODIs. Former Pakistani captain and legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi tops the list of batters with the most sixes in ODI cricket. During his 19-year-old career, Afridi played 398 ODIs and scored 351 sixes.
