'They Have to Wake Up': Sunil Gavaskar Lashes Out at Listless India Bowling Against South Africa
However, Shardul managed to get the crucial wicket of Elgar in the 95th over but in the first hour of the day, the Indian bowling looked clueless.

Batting great Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at Team India’s bowling attack and called it listless after their underwhelming show in the initial hour on Day 3 at SuperSport Park, Centurion. India remained wicketless as Dean Elgar and Marco Jansen played confidently and stretched South Africa’s lead over 100 quite comfortably.

Premier pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj tried to create some problems with their disciplined line and length. But the third and fourth pace bowling options Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna failed to create any impact in the initial phase of the session.

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin also failed to find any assistance from the surface as Elgar and Jansen faced him without much problem.

However, Shardul managed to get the crucial wicket of Elgar in the 95th over. The southpaw edged the ball behind stumps where KL Rahul took a fine catch.

Gavaskar, who was in the commentary box, was unimpressed with Indian bowling in the initial hour of the day and called it listless.

“India have to wake up. They are listless. I can understand on a hot day, an hour after Tea, but not on the first hour of a day,” said Sunil Gavaskar during his commentary.

Meanwhile, former India head coach Dean Elgar also criticised the Indian bowling attack and said they need to head back into the game.

“India needs to stop thinking that things will happen for them. They need to get their head back in the game. The real test for India will be how to go from here. They haven’t played a lot of Test matches in recent times. In needs to be seen how India pulls up from here,” he said.

Earlier, in his final Test on his home ground, veteran opener Dean Elgar kickstarted his farewell series by slamming a century to single-handedly put South Africa into the lead on day two of the first Test against India at the SuperSport Park on Wednesday.

Elgar celebrated with a joyful jump, punching and roaring in delight, with the crowd quick to applaud a fine knock, also his first Test hundred at home ground.
