India ex-cricketer Wasim Jaffer had the perfect response to a fan comparing cricket with baseball. Ahead of India’s opening T20 World Cup fixture against Ireland, a user shared a video showcasing a baseball catch on X.

He said, “Never seen a ‘cricket’ player do this". The post didn’t go down well with Jaffer. And, he responded by sharing a video of a jaw-dropping catch from Indian women’s cricketer Harleen Deol.

In the clip, Harleen can be seen tossing the ball near the boundary ropes as he goes past the line. She then swiftly comes back inside to pluck the ball in mid-air, completing the catch.

Comparing the brilliant piece of fielding with the original post, Jaffer wrote, “Hold this. Check no gloves too".

The catch from Harleen Deol dates back to a clash between India and England in July 2021. Playing in Northampton, Harleen showcased the moment of fielding genius to dismiss Amy Ellen-James. The comparison resulted in a banter with one user suggesting that baseball fans might not have watched cricket before.

“They haven’t watched cricket," he wrote.

Another one suggested that there was no match for the brilliant fielding effort of the female cricketer. “Nothing can beat this", he said.

Other fans tried to clarify the comparisons by suggesting that the original post was talking about the throw and not the catch. “It’s not about the catch. It’s about throwing back the ball to the pitch to take the player out."

Another agreed and added, “Fairs but he is talking about the 100m throw".

One more user seemed entertained by the hilarious debate. He wrote, “Keep the debate going! Will only raise more interest in cricket in the US. Also…baseball should become more common in India too," he said.

Speaking on his YouTube channel ahead of the fixture, Jaffer talked about the need for a significant shift in India’s tactics for the tournament.

“India have to play a fearless brand of cricket which we have not done in the last 2-3 World Cups. We have to be a little more aggressive. Hardik Pandya’s role as an all-rounder is going to be quite crucial," Jaffer said on his channel.
