Pakistan pacer Shahnawaz Dahani performed a bold celebration in the Champions One-Day Cup 2024 final. The 26-year-old was pumped up for the ultimate clash held at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on September 29.
Representing the Wolves, Dahani dismissed Panthers’ opener Umar Siddiq to give his side a breakthrough in the second innings. After taking the wicket, the pacer sprinted towards the opposing team’s dugout while throwing his arm up in the air. Shahnawaz Dahani picked up the wicket in the eighth over during the run chase. On the penultimate ball, Dahani came up with a lengthy delivery down the ground against Umar Siddiq. The Panthers’ batter attempted to defend the ball but was beaten comprehensively. The clean-bowled wicket ended their opening partnership at 51 runs. The dismissal was not a big loss for the Panthers as they were already in a commanding position. They were chasing down a 123-run total. Yet, it did not stop Dahani from celebrating the wicket in an over-the-top manner.
The epic Champions One-Day Cup 2024 final saw the Wolves win the toss and elect to bat first. Fakhar Zaman delivered with the bat, scoring 46 runs off 49 balls for the Wolves. He hit five boundaries and one six to help his team to reach a 122-run total.
The Panthers bowling duo of Muhammad Hasnain and Arafat Minhas combined for six wickets during the opening half. The impactful bowling from the Panthers paved the way for a successful chase. They scored 123 in just 18 overs with five wickets to spare. Abdul Bangalzai was the top scorer with 41 runs in the chase. Shahnawaz Dahani finished the game with figures of 1/54 in eight overs.
Speaking of Shahnawaz Dahani, the 26-year-old last featured for Pakistan in October 2022. He had the opportunity to climb his way back to the national squad by doing well in the Champions One-Day Cup 2024. He scalped three wickets in the five matches he played at an economy of 6.28.
