The Indian cricket team management is undecisive over what playing combination will be best suited for the 2nd Test against Bangladesh which gets underway from Thursday.
At least that’s what the official stand is.
The pitch curator of the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur where the second Test is slated to be played has prepared two pitches – one using black soil which is how it’s prepared here that assists spinners while the second is similar to the one used in Chennai which had something for everyone.
The curator Shiv Kumar says the pitch he’s prepared will offer bounce in the first two sessions but will also offer plenty of runs for the first two days. As it wears on, the spinners will come into play.
The Indian team management had a look at both the pitches on Wednesday. There’s prediction of rain on Day 1 and Day 3 of the 2nd Test and the overhead conditions in addition to the pitch will dictate whether India will take field three spinners or three pacers.
“To be honest, I don’t know which surface we are going to play on yet,” India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar told reporters on Thursday. “Both the pitches look pretty good. Kanpur is often known to have good pitches. I am not sure about the bounce yet.”
“With the conditions and the forecast, it is going to be interesting, when we turn up in the morning, how the conditions are. A lot will depend on that because as you know in Test wicket, conditions can be a huge factor in how the pitch plays,” he added.
With all members of the India squad fit and available, Nayar is praying for a sunny day instead of an overcast sky come Friday.
“It is too early for us to judge and decide or have any sort of thought process on the pitch or the conditions. But we are hoping we come in tomorrow to a sunny day and not an overcast Kanpur,” he said.
