Banaras Hindu University To Offer Free Civil Services Coaching With Stipend
The high cost of UPSC tutoring makes it unaffordable for candidates from economically disadvantaged sections.

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has set the deadline for applications for free coaching for the Civil Services (Main and Preliminary) Examination 2023–24. The official announcement indicates that the admissions process will take place on December 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This initiative by BHU aims to assist candidates, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, in preparing for one of the most challenging exams—the Civil Services exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The exam is a gateway for selecting candidates for prestigious roles such as IAS, IPS, and IFS officers.

According to Assistant Registrar Ramesh Kumar Nigam of the centre, this year, approximately 300 candidates are expected to apply for admission counselling, out of which only 100 will be selected. The selection includes 63 female candidates and 147 male candidates from scheduled castes, along with 27 female and 63 male candidates selected from the OBC group. Additionally, ten differently-abled applicants have received invitations for counselling.

To make the coaching program more accessible, BHU provides not only free coaching but also a stipend of Rs 4000 per month to UPSC aspirants. Furthermore, successful candidates clearing UPSC or State Service Mains are eligible for an additional incentive of Rs 15,000. The coaching and counselling sessions will be conducted near the Dr. Ambedkar Center of Excellence at the UGC HRDC Cyber Library on the university campus.

Interested candidates can find detailed information and updates on the BHU website at bhu.ac.in. The SC and OBC applicants’ entrance exam results were released on December 20, marking a significant step in the admission process. BHU’s coaching initiative aims to bridge the gap and make UPSC preparation more inclusive, especially for those who find the high cost of coaching institutes prohibitive.

Candidates are encouraged to reach out to the Dr. Ambedkar Centre of Excellence for any clarification or anomalies. They can contact the centre by phone at 94500716669 or via email at [email protected].

Banaras Hindu University, known for its diverse academic offerings, comprises six institutions, 14 faculties, and over 140 departments. As of 2020, BHU had a total enrollment of 30,698 students from 48 different nations, offering a conducive environment for learning and growth.
