Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar of the University Grants Commission (UGC) has indicated that the announcement of the release date for the results of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG will be made soon. Originally, these results, crucial for undergraduate admissions, were scheduled to be released by June 30. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has not provided any recent updates regarding this matter. The delayed announcement of CUET results is anticipated to impact the academic schedules of universities. According to the UGC chairman, “NTA is currently working on CUET results and will announce a date soon.”
The delay in releasing the CUET results coincides with controversies surrounding alleged irregularities in exams such as NEET and NET. A hybrid-mode exam in Delhi was cancelled abruptly due to logistical issues, rescheduled, and eventually conducted. The NTA had previously stated that the third edition of CUET-UG spanned seven days without score normalisation, with all exams taking place in a single session. Out of the 63 subjects tested, 15 were in pen-and-paper format, while the remaining 48 were computer-based.
This year, more than 13.4 lakh candidates registered for the common entrance test, aiming to secure admission to undergraduate courses across 261 central, state, deemed, and private universities. During the first edition of the exam in 2022, technical issues affected its conduct. Due to subjects being administered in multiple shifts, score normalisation was required during result announcements. With ongoing scrutiny over alleged irregularities in exams like NEET and NET, the Central government recently removed NTA Director General Subodh Singh and formed a high-level committee led by former ISRO chief R. Radhakrishnan. This committee’s task is to ensure transparent, smooth, and fair administration of examinations conducted by the NTA.
NEET is currently under the radar for irregularities, including an alleged paper leak, while UGC-NET was cancelled after the education ministry received information indicating compromised exam integrity. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating both cases.
