Around 1,800 private schools in Delhi have disclosed their first merit list for Nursery, KG, and Class-1 admissions for students in the general category. There is a 25 per cent reservation for students from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Disadvantaged Group (DG), along with children with disabilities in these private schools. A separate list will be issued exclusively for these reserved categories.
Sudha Acharya, Principal of ITL Public School, reported receiving 1,200 applications for admission to entry-level classes this year. The school released a merit list of 61 students. Acharya mentioned that a significant number of this year’s applicants are either children of alumni or siblings of current students at ITL Public School. The school has a total of 190 seats available for entry-level classes.
The admission draw process is recorded on video, and schools retain the footage. Before placing the slips inside the box, they are shown to the parents. As per the Directorate of Education guidelines, the minimum age for admission to pre-school (nursery), pre-primary (KG), and class-1 as of March 31 should be three years, four years, and five years, respectively. These classes are considered entry-level, with the upper age limit for entry being below four years, below five years, and below six years, respectively.
Approximately 200 schools have announced their conclusive merit lists for admissions. RC Jain, President of the Delhi State Public School Management Association, confirmed that these schools won’t be issuing any supplementary lists or waiting lists. It’s common for many of the prominent schools in Delhi not to publish a second list or waiting list. Following the release of the first merit list, schools will address parents’ queries from January 13 to January 22.
The Directorate of Education has clarified that it is not obligatory to buy the prospectus along with the admit card. As a result, parents can only be charged Rs 25 as a registration fee.
The second list of selected students, along with the waiting list, will be disclosed On January 29. It will feature the assigned marks determined by the points system. Schools will adhere to fair, reasonable, well-defined, non-discriminatory, clear-cut, and transparent admission criteria during the student selection process.
