After submitting the required documents and payment, Kumar was stunned to receive a GST notice indicating a Rs 250 crore tax liability in his name.

In a shocking case of job fraud from Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, a man named Ashwani Kumar received a job offer via WhatsApp that led to a massive Rs 250 crore GST bill. The scam began when Kumar was asked to provide his Aadhaar card, PAN card, and other personal documents, along with a registration fee of Rs 1,750, to secure the job.

After submitting the required documents and payment, Kumar was stunned to receive a GST notice indicating a Rs 250 crore tax liability in his name. An investigation revealed that a fake company had been registered using Kumar’s documents, and a bank account was opened under this fictitious entity. The company is now facing a substantial GST debt.

Kumar reported the incident to the police, detailing how he provided his personal documents and made the payment through Paytm, expecting a legitimate job opportunity. Instead, he was confronted with the enormous GST bill. Authorities are currently investigating the case and are in discussions with the GST department to resolve the matter.

If you’re job hunting, avoid sending your documents to unknown companies without thorough investigation. Verify the reliability of any potential employer to prevent misuse of your documents for fraud, such as loans or credit cards. Past incidents have shown that documents can be exploited for such purposes.

How to identify and prevent fraud:

  • Do not accept job offers from unverified sources.
  • Only send documents to reputable and verified companies.
  • Be cautious of job offers that require payment.
  • Report any suspicious activity to the police to help prevent fraud.
