Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated, dedicated to the nation, and laid the foundation stone of several projects worth about Rs 13,375 crores in the field of education. He dedicated to the nation the permanent campuses of IIT Bhilai, IIT Tirupati, IISER Tirupati, IIITDM Kurnool, an academic and residential complex in IIT Patna and IIT Ropar, two permanent campuses of Central Sanskrit University — one at Devprayag (Uttarakhand) and another at Agartala (Tripura), the official press release by PIB stated.
PM Modi also inaugurated permanent campuses of IIM Visakhapatnam, IIM Jammu, and IIM Bodh Gaya. He also inaugurated the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) – a skill training institute on advanced technologies in Kanpur. Furthermore, he inaugurated improved hostels, academic blocs, administrative buildings, libraries, and auditoriums in several institutes such as IIT Jammu, NIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, NIT Durgapur, IISER Behrampur, NIT Arunachal Pradesh, IIIT Lucknow, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, Central University of Kerala Kasaragod, among others.
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of multiple projects for upgrading the infrastructure in several higher educational institutes across the country. These projects include the construction of the permanent campus of Sindhu Central University and IIIT Raichur; the construction of an academic block, hostel, faculty quarter, etc in IIT Bombay; construction of a Hostel and Staff Quarter in IIT Gandhinagar, construction of Girls’ hostel in BHU, among others.
The PM inaugurated the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Vijaypur (Samba), Jammu. The new medical college features 125 seats, a nursing college with 60 seats, residential accommodation for faculty and staff, hostel accommodation for UG and PG students, etc. The institute, whose foundational stone was laid by the PM in February 2019, is being established under the Central sector scheme Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.
Addressing the gathering, the PM said, “The number of Medical Colleges in J&K has increased from 4 to 12 in the last 10 years. Similarly, in the same time period, MBBS seats in J&K have more than doubled from 500 to 1300.”
“There were no PG medical seats in J&K before 2014,” the PM said adding that “today there are 650 PG medical seats in the Union Territory.” As many as 35 new nursing and paramedic colleges are also coming up in the region, he added.
