The Bengaluru government has directed all private and government schools to remain shut on Monday, October 21 due to heavy rains in the city, reported PTI. The decision was taken after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms for at least three hours in the city. Waterlogging has been reported in several parts of the city as well.
As per the official statement, “Due to continuous rain in Bengaluru Urban district, a holiday has been declared on October 21 for all Anganwadi centres, as well as private and aided primary and high schools, as a precautionary measure in the interest of students.”

Meanwhile, no holiday has been given to PU degree colleges, engineering institutes, and ITI. However, the order directed college heads to keep the condition of their buildings in check and avoid using those areas which are weak or dilapidated. The BBMP has requested citizens to “stay indoors, close windows & doors, and avoid travel if possible.”
Schools in the Bengaluru Urban district were closed last week too due to the heavy rain forecast. Educational institutes in the city were closed on October 15 and 16 due to continuous rains in Bengaluru. The Meteorological Department had issued an orange alert. “As a precautionary measure in the interest of students, all taluk Anganwadi centres, private/aided primary and high schools of Bengaluru City will be closed on Wednesday,” a government order stated.
