UPSC 2023 Results: Jharkhand Shopkeeper's Son Gets AIR 114 On Fourth Attempt
Siddhant Kumar pursued Electrical Engineering from Cochin University of Science and Technology in Kerala. He graduated in the year 2017.

The results of the UPSC CSE 2023 were announced on Tuesday by the Union Public Service Commission. Son of Shyam Nandan Singh and Ranju Singh, Siddhant Kumar has achieved a remarkable milestone. A resident of Koderma’s Jhumri Tilaiya Bypass Road in Jharkhand passed one of the toughest exams in the country after failing three times consecutively. Despite this, he refused to give up and achieved his dream on his fourth attempt.

Talking to Local18 in an exclusive interview, Siddhant Kumar stated that he did his early schooling at DAV Public School, Rajbansi Nagar, Patna. He passed the 12th grade from here in the year 2013. After passing out from school, he pursued Electrical Engineering from Cochin University of Science and Technology in Kerala. He graduated in the year 2017.

After getting his degree he bagged a placement offer of Rs 17 lakh from a London-based company but rejected it as he dreamt of being a civil services official. He then decided to pursue the preparation for the UPSC exam while staying in his own country.

Siddhant further mentioned that he never got demotivated even after back-to-back failures. He stated that after failing for the first time in the UPSC CSE exam, he continued with his preparation. On the second attempt, though he reached the interview stage he failed to succeed. He continued to prepare for the exam but couldn’t taste success even after the third attempt. He stated that after failing for the third time, he decided to focus more on his weaknesses. On his fourth attempt, he achieved the milestone by securing an All-India Rank of 114.

When asked about his parent’s occupation, Siddhant Kumar said that his father runs a hardware shop in Patna while his mother is a housewife. He mentioned that he never took any coaching from any institute for the preparation. Siddhant said that with patience, and dedication he cracked the country’s toughest competitive exam.

The boy from Bihar earlier had a good performance in the Bihar Public Service Commission exam securing a rank of 5 in BPSC 2022. Presently working as an Assistant State Sales Commissioner in Patna, Siddhant mentioned that he studied for around 8 to 10 hours daily to achieve his dream.
