North Indian states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and others have been facing cold waves and dense fog for quite some time. The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of the possible health impacts on the people due to the temperature. These conditions have prompted the authorities to announce the winter vacation in the states. This space articulates winter vacations in different parts of India.
1. Delhi
This year, the winter vacation in Delhi has been bifurcated into two parts. Due to pollution, all the schools in Delhi were closed from November 9 to 18. An order stated to include this break in the winter vacation. Delhi schools will remain closed from January 1, 2024, to January 6, 2024.
2. Uttar Pradesh
The winter vacation has been announced in Uttar Pradesh for about 15 days, from December 31, 2023 to January 14, 2024. Schools across all the districts of Uttar Pradesh will be closed on these dates. The 15-day holiday break can be extended if the weather conditions do not subside.
3. Haryana
The Haryana government has announced the closure of the government and private schools from January 1 to 15, 2024. This decision will prevail among the schools affiliated with the Haryana board. It will also be applied to the schools affiliated with the CBSE and ICSE.
4. Punjab
The Punjab government has substantially reduced the number of holidays this year. As per the orders, schools will remain closed from December 24 to 31. Schools will be reopened from January 1, 2024. They can, however, be closed again if the cold wave conditions in the state increase.
5. Rajasthan
Winter break in the Rajasthan schools commenced on December 25 and will continue till January 5, 2024. The holidays can be extended further if the intense cold conditions continue to increase further.
6. Jharkhand
The Jharkhand government has ordered all schools to remain closed from December 26 to 31. The winter break can be extended further if there is no improvement in the weather.
7. Jammu
Winter break for the classes up to 8th closed on December 11 and will continue to remain so till February 29. Holidays for classes 9 to 12 closed on December 18 and will remain so till February 29. The Directorate of School Education Jammu has issued a notification regarding this information.
