DSP Shares Exciting Detail About Suriya, Disha Patani's Kanguva: 'Some Fight Sequences…' | Exclusive
Music composer Devi Sri Prasad says Suriya and Jyothika sent him gifts after listening to the first song from Kanguva. He lauds Suriya's action scenes in it.

All eyes are set on Suriya’s upcoming film Kanguva: A Mighty Valiant Saga. Directed by Siva, the period action drama will see the south superstar in five roles. It also marks the Tamil debut of Disha Patani. Billed as a magnum opus, it is mounted on a massive scale and budget and promises to entertain the audience with a never-seen-before visual experience and action sequences.

While most details about the plot are kept under wraps, it has been revealed that the film will release in both 2D and 3D across ten different languages in early 2024. As per reports, it has been made on a budget of around Rs 300-350 crore and is touted to be one of the most expensive Indian films. The first glimpse from Kanguva was unveiled on Suriya’s birthday in July this year and his brand new avatar has left many impressed.

The music for the film has been composed by Devi Sri Prasad, popularly known as DSP, of Arya and Pushpa: The Rise fame. In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, he spills the beans on Kanguva and how he thinks it will emerge as one of the most stunning audio-visual extravaganzas. “Kanguva is a very huge film that will come in many languages. I saw some fight sequences and a couple of songs that they shot. It’s massive,” he says.

DSP lauds Suriya for his prep for the film and shares a big challenge the music team faced while putting the songs together. “It’s something that Suriya sir hasn’t attempted before. It has got a lot of ancient language. So, we’re doing a lot of research on the words which we’re trying to incorporate in the songs,” he says.

The music composer goes on to reveal Suriya and Jyothika’s reaction to the first song he composed for Kanguva. “Suriya sir and Jyothika ma’am loved the first song. After they heard it, they sent me a huge bouquet, a sweet box and a nice gift. They’re all so excited and so am I. The visuals and Suriya sir’s make-up are incredible. A small first glimpse of the film went viral. I think people will love it,” he remarks.

In August this year, DSP won his first National Award for Best Music Director (Songs) for Allu Arjun’s Pushpa. With films like Kanguva and Pushpa: The Rule in his kitty, does he feel the pressure from high expectations? “We never worked to get the National Award. I compose songs for small films, big films, new heroes and big heroes with the same dedication because that’s what my gurus and parents have taught me. The journey is only about music,” he says.

He further adds, “I’m really grateful and thankful to everyone across India and Indians across the world for loving my music. They’re the reason why I got the National Award for Pushpa. It’s said that hard work never goes waste. As you keep pursuing your passion honestly, whatever you deserve keeps coming your way.”
