New Delhi: Mohun Bagan beat Malaysian club Pahang FC 2-0 in the AFC Cup group league encounter at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Tuesday.

But Bagan’s win was of no use as as Mahindra United had already entered into the quarter-finals of AFC Cup having beaten New Radiant of Maldives by a brace in Mumbai earlier.

For the Bengal club the first goal came from midfielder Lalkamal Bhowmick in the 12th minute and the second was scored by the man of the match PC Lalwampuya in the 69th minute.

Bagan were the better team from the start and their midfield and strikers troubled the Pahang defence through out the match.

Lalwampuya started the move that led to the first goal and though skipper Jose Ramirez Barreto could not connect, but Bhowmick put the ball coolly in the nets of Pahang.

Bhowmick returned the favour when he passed the ball to Lalampuia in the right who made no mistake to put the ball in the nets.

However, the final minutes of the match saw a brawl involving Mohun Bagan’s Fabio Cortez Vidal and Pahang's Rashid Mahmud with both being shown red cards in the 81st minute.

In the Mahindra United versus New Radiant match, Stephen Dias helped the Mumbai club to a 2-0 win.

Mahindra were the best second placed team among groups D, E and F finishing the league with 12 points from Group E while Bagan ended with 11 points.

Dias was instrumental in both the Mahindra goals.

In the first goal he acted as the provider for Mohammed Rafi in the 18th minute and then scored the second in the 64th minute to make sure that his team were in the last eight.
