Barcelona’s Player Registration Conundrum Gains Attention Ahead Of LaLiga Opener Against Valencia
The drama surrounding Barcelona’s registration of their new signings resurfaced following club President Joan Laporta's declaration that Barcelona would be within their salary limits earlier in the year.

For a third consecutive summer, it looks like the drama surrounding Barcelona’s registration of their new signings will boil down to the final days of the transfer window. The registration troubles followed after club President Joan Laporta declared that Barcelona would be within their salary limits earlier this year. He also made claims that the Catalan giants would also be able to afford stars like Nico Williams.

Journalist Gerard Romero has lashed out at the La Liga side over the club’s player-registration drama in recent years. Having lost all faith in the club, he said via Football Espana, “Me, right now, I don’t believe the club now. The time has come when I just don’t believe them, and I feel like that, I’m sorry Lluis. I feel like that because the club do not meet the deadlines that they put out in recent months.”

A clip of Romero’s conversation was shared by a fan page on X (formerly Twitter). “Gerard Romero decided to throw out facts,” the post read.

Romero also talked about how he has now stopped falling into the trap of generating excitement for the players who ‘could come’ to Barcelona. Questioning the club’s expenditure and lack of efforts to debloat the team, Romero said, “I don’t to fall into the trap of generating excitement about players who could come, when you are spending it I don’t know where the whole b***** summer, not cleaning out the squad, and then you get to the 14th of August with the water at your throat.”

Barcelona reportedly need around €62 million to activate Williams’ release clause. Despite signing Dani Olmo, Barcelona are unlikely to have the Spanish international in their La Liga opener against Valencia. Barcelona manager Hansi Flick had mentioned that Olmo would not feature in their season opener against Valencia due to fitness problems.

“At the moment, Dani is not in the right fitness for the game against Valencia. He is not an option. He started very late to the preseason preparation and now we take care of him. For us, it’s important that all the players playing have no injuries, that’s the most important thing,” Flick said in a news conference as per ESPN.

Olmo’s fitness issue is not the only reason that is preventing him from taking part in the game against Valencia. It has been learnt that Olmo’s signing has not yet been registered with La Liga.
