Chelsea's Frank Lampard says he expects Arsenal to challenge for the title this year.

London: Chelsea's Frank Lampard has admitted he expects Arsenal to challenge for the title this year, despite the Blues holding a four point lead over the Gunners already.

Speaking to The Sun the England international confessed that he expected to see Arsene Wenger's side towards the top of the table at the end of the season.

He said: "It would be silly to rule out Arsenal at this stage even though they are a few points behind. They are a great footballing team."

In contrast to the Gunners, who have lost twice already this season, Chelsea are unbeaten and flying high at the top of the league after beating Middlesbrough 5-0 at the weekend.

The Blues' midfielder admitted that he was enjoying his side's start to the season and was hoping for more success.

Lampard explained: "There is something about us at the moment. We've always had a strong squad anyway but at the moment it's really clicking and we're working hard for each other. If we keep doing that we've got a great chance."

Chelsea face second placed Liverpool at the weekend at Stamford Bridge and Lampard admitted it would be an important game for both sides.

He said: "Sunday against Liverpool will be a great marker for both of us to try and prove we can open a bit of daylight at the top."

The two sides have enjoyed great rivalry over recent seasons, particularly in the Champions League and Lampard admitted he was looking forward to the game especially with the way his side were playing at the moment.

"This season we're re-focused, there's a real freshness about us," said the England midfielder before concluding, "We're trying to play good football and we're doing that and we're scoring goals."

Chelsea's next fixture is on Wednesday night when AS Roma visit Stamford Bridge in the Champions League.
