Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has claimed he ‘never dives’ after winning a penalty against Chelsea at Anfield in a Premier League clash on Sunday. Jones won a penalty in the first half of the thrilling fixture. It was converted by Mohamed Salah, allowing Liverpool to take the lead and eventually win the match 2-1 thanks to a Jones strike.

“I remember I played the ball and made a run and then it hit my back and it was just there. I never dive, I felt the contact and went down and it was a penalty,” Jones said while talking about the penalty as per Liverpool FC’s official website.
Jones proved to be a crucial figure for Liverpool during the Premier League fixture. After winning a penalty for his side, he made another impactful contribution by scoring the second goal for the Reds in the 51st minute.
“As soon as Mo [Salah] had the ball, I made the run and I thought it was going to come and it did. But it kind of bounced as well so I thought, I’ve got to have a touch and it’s got to be a perfect touch. I was fortunate enough that it was in my path and I got the goal,” Jones said.
Jones says he’s happy to have guided his side to a win.
“Well, yeah, it’s the most important thing. We came away with a win, that’s the most important thing. I was involved in a lot as well, as you said, but I’m happy that we won,” he said.
Jones will now have his eyes trained on Liverpool’s upcoming Champions League clash against RB Leipzig. The match will be played at the Red Bull Arena Leipzig on October 24.
The 2-1 victory against Chelsea, helped Liverpool claim the top spot in the Premier League standings. Having played eight matches so far in the competition, Liverpool have collected 21 points.
